Amarina graduates on a roll

A run of good results has kept the winning tally ticking over for horses born, raised or sold by Amarina Farm.

Following on from stakes wins by Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor x Laventour) and Artistry (Shamardal x Lady Peony), the farm has had seven winners in four days starting on November ninth.

Midweek racing kicked off the succession with Defiant Witness (Star Witness x Angelic Belle), who was born on the farm in 2012, winning on debut at Balaklava.

The four-year-old is trained by Phillip Stokes and owned by Ultra Thoroughbreds, the same connections that raced his half-brother Defiant Angel (Dehere) who was sold from Amarina’s 2011 Magic Millions draft.

Another winning on debut on the Wednesday was Never Out (Star Witness x Jesterchine) who took out a 1000m event at Gosford.

A $57,500 Inglis Classic purchase from the 2015 draft of Amarina Farm, Never Out is trained by Kim Waugh and owned by a group of high level cricket players who named her as a tribute to Phillip Hughes who died after he was hit by a ball while 63 not out in a Sheffield Shield match in November 2014.

The third Wednesday winner was the Clinton McDonald trained Danuki (Exceed and Excel x Miduki) who capitalised on a good run of form to win at Bendigo. The four-year-old was born at Amarina in 2012.

Winner number four came in the form of Petracca (Starcraft x Allowable). A $77,500 graduate of Amarina’s 2014 Inglis Classic draft, Petracca won over 1400m at Echuca for the Darren Weir stable.

The final three victors all raced on the Saturday. In New Zealand the inform Michael and Mathew Pitman stable had Flying Ibis (Nadeem x Fiery Sunset) (pictured) win at Riccarton on the last day of the New Zealand Cup Carnival. The $55,000 2010 Inglis Weanling Sale graduate clocked up his fifth career win.

In Western Australia the Daniel Pearce trained Keeper Keen (Sebring x Keeper Quiet) was very impressive winning on debut at Ascot over 1100m. The two-year-old gelding was born at Amarina in 2014 for breeders Yarradale Stud and stamped himself as one to watch.

Chris Waller expects Zumbelina (Stratum x Ruth’s Secret) to step up in the Autumn after a nice win at Rosehill. Richard Treweeke, the lesser known of champion Winx’s owners, races Zumbelina who was born at Amarina in 2013.

“Richard gets just as much joy out of winning a race like today as he does the big ones,” Waller said.

“He bred Zumbelina and that’s a big thing. She is a very nice filly and there’s another race here over 1400 metres in a fortnight.

“Then we might think about the autumn.”

There is no better advertising than results on the track, and with the Magic Millions sales prep in full swing these results demonstrate the quality stock that benefit from a great start at Amarina Farm.
