Laing: Flyer shares Polanski traits

Robbie Laing says there are a lot of similarities between Kentucky Flyer and 2013 Victoria Derbychampion Polanski.

Kentucky Flyer further enhanced his Derby credentials with a strong victory in the Quest Moonee Valley Handicap (1500m) on Saturday at Moonee Valley, making it back-to-back wins this campaign.

The Cranbourne trainer knows exactly what it takes to win the Victoria Derby, having done it with Polanski two years ago, and he thinks Kentucky Flyer shares the same traits.

“He’s got good natural speed,” Laing said.

“When I ran Polanksi first-up in the Danehill four runs before the Derby, he could’ve led.

“He’s a good galloper, he’s mature and we’ve set him for the one race.

“We’re not going to go Caulfield Guineas (or anything like that), I think if you target one race you’re a far better chance.”
