Services

At Amarina Farm we pride ourselves on providing the most premium services.

Agistment

Located in the heart of the Hunter Valley and local to major Stud Farms, Amarina Farm offers premium agistment facilities for permanent and seasonal mares, including full 24-hour foaling facilities. Amarina also offers agistment for weanlings, yearlings and racehorses whilst spelling. Amarina is post and rail fenced, and fitted with electrics to ensure every paddock is safe. All paddocks are irrigated to ensure all horses are always on nutritious feed, with supplementary feeding of grain and hay also provided when required. The Amarina team work a permanent 7-day roster meaning all of our horses are checked daily by staff to monitor their health and condition.

Foaling

Amarina provides experienced staff to care for mares both pre and post foaling. Mares are monitored 24 hours a day and staff work in conjunction with Scone Veterinary Hospital to make sure the birthing process is safe and that mares are prepared for the up-coming breeding season. Amarina was designed so the progress of both mare and foal can be monitored closely until they have developed enough to move into larger paddocks with other small groups at the same stage. We work closely with our farrier and vets to monitor hoof and leg growth so any corrective work can be done as early as possible to ensure proper conformation development.

Weaning

Foals are weaned in a manner that ensure both mare and foal experience minimal distress. The weanlings are then placed in mobs of the same sex, of similar size and age, and with a nanny horse. Amarina is now home to several ‘famous’ nannies, including El Segundo and Typhoon Zed who are spending their retirement passing on their knowledge to the next generation of champions. Each weanling is given basic education including having a head-collar put on, leading and having their feet picked up. During the next six months, each group of weanlings are taken through further handling and education where they are rugged, hand-walked, put through the walker, have their feet picked up again and taught general manners. Repetition of basic skills ensures our weanlings are well educated and easier to handle as yearlings.

Walking Out

From mid-August, dry mares and early foalers begin pre-covering examination in conjunction with the team at Scone Equine Hospital. The central location of Amarina makes it ideal for sending mares to any stallion in the Hunter Valley. Our dedicated post-covering care ensures that we give each mare the best chance possible to get in foal.

Sales Preparation

When selling a horse under the Amarina Farm banner, clients can be assured their horse will be prepared and presented in the best manner possible. With a carefully thought out plan that considers nutrition, exercise, conditioning, grooming and education, horses arrive at the sales with genuine groundwork behind them. Amarina staff work closely with vets and the farrier to ensure each horse receives any individual care required. With a history of horses being sold for good prices to well-known purchasers, Amarina has built a reputation for producing quality and professional drafts that graduate to perform above and beyond expectations.
