Sheidel set to star in Moir Stakes

Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor x Laventour) is yet to win at Moonee Valley but her co-trainer David Hayes has pointed to a couple of factors he believes could spark a big performance from the mare in the Gr.1 Moir Stakes.

This year’s Oakleigh Plate winner is one of three runners for the Lindsay Park stable in Friday night’s 1000m weight-for-age sprint.

Sheidel finished fourth in the Gr.3 The Heath at Caulfield first-up on September 2 and Hayes said the mare had since visited a stallion to be served with the intention to race on through spring before being retired.

Sheidel, who was born and raised at Amarina Farm, will have blinkers on in a race for the first time.

“Sheidel has been covered in between starts,” Hayes said.

“And she has got blinkers. So she’s got two major changes.

“Her Valley record is poor but I think with those two changes she could go very, very well.”

Sheidel has champion Hong Kong-based jockey Joao Moreira aboard, who has two wins from three rides on the mare including the Oakleigh Plate.

“That’s another big plus,” Hayes said.

“I think she’ll run very well. The only query is the Valley.”
